Shih-Tien Wang, MD

Dr. Shih-Tien Wang is currently a Professor at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, School of Medicine, National Yang Ming University; and Chief of the Division of Spine Surgery, Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan. He is also the current president of the Taiwan Spine Society and the Co-Chairman of the 2018 Annual Meeting of Asia Pacific Spine Society.

He obtained his medical degree at the National Defense Medical Center, and rotating internship training at Triservice General Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan. His specialty training includes: 2 years of resident training in the Department of Surgery, and 3 years in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology; chief resident in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology; and fellowship in the Division of Sports Medicine, followed by a fellowship in the Division of Spine Surgery, Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan. In 1999, he became a post-doctoral research fellow of Dr. Vijay K. Goel for 1 year at the Iowa Spine Research Center, Department of Orthopedics, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Iowa, Iowa city, IA, USA.

He served in the military as an attending surgeon (major, ROC Army) at the Department of Surgery, 820 Army Hospital, Kin-Men. He is a member of the Taiwan Surgical Association, Taiwan Orthopaedic Association, Taiwan Spine Society, and Taiwan Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. Dr. Wang was: secretary, Journal of Spine Surgery, ROC; supervisor and director, Taiwan Spine Society; secretary, Journal of Orthopedic Surgery, Taiwan, official journal of the Taiwan Orthopaedic Association; and secretary general to the Taiwan Spine Society and the Pacific and Asian Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (PASMISS)-2014. He is currently a member of the editorial board of the Formosan Journal of Musculoskeletal Disorders, the official journal of the Taiwan Orthopaedic Association, Asian Spine Journal, Journal of Spine Surgery; and a reviewer for the Spine Journal, Spine (Philadelphia, Pa. 1976) and Journal of Chinese Medical Association.

He authored and co-authored 27 published scientific papers in the last 5 years.
