Dr. Nan Wu received his M.D. degree (Eight-year of bachelor-doctor thorough) from Peking Union Medical College, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Tsinghua University. He has been practicing as an attending surgeon at the department of orthopedic surgery from Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH).
Dr. Wu shows great enthusiasm in deciphering the genetic underpins of scoliosis and related disorders, and expanded his research to genomic level years ago. He and his colleagues identified one of the most important disease-causing gene (TBX6) of congenital scoliosis. Moreover, the disease model of rare variant in trans with common hypomorphic allele shed new lights on interpreting the genetic and genomic data by integrating the Mendelian and non-Mendelian contributors.
Later on, he joined Dr. James R. Lupski’s lab at Baylor College of Medicine where he worked on systemically analyzing genomic data in patients with scoliosis and other rare disease cohorts. Dr. Wu is the one of the founding members of the Deciphering disorders Involving Scoliosis and COmorbidities (DISCO) project, which aims to use the genetic and genomic approaches to decipher the genetic landscape of scoliosis. Dr. Wu has coauthored >40 SCI papers, with a total of IF>200.
