Prior to medical school, Chet Sutterlin acquired Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, W Lafayette, Indiana and Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon, respectively. After completing his BS in Biology from Portland State University, Portland, Oregon, he proceeded with an MD degree at Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland, Oregon. He then completed residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of S Florida, Tampa, Florida, and fellowship in Spinal Reconstructive Surgery at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, Maryland.
Chet has maintained… 1) a lifelong interest in complex reconstructive spinal surgery and minimally invasive spinal procedures; 2) a passion for education and mentorship; 3) the pursuit of innovation (with multiple patents) and implant development, including additive manufacturing/3D printing; 4) involvement in research, particularly biomechanics, with multiple publications and presentations; and 5) volunteer efforts over many years and is Founder of Spinal Health International, a nonprofit organization. Married in 1979, his wife, Colleen, and children, Landon and Autumn, continue to share many avocational interests…mountain climbing, rock climbing, trekking, scuba, sailing, and world travel. Currently, Chet divides the majority of his time between Australia, Nepal, and the United States of America.
